The Importance of Family

Finally have a moment to bring you up to date on what’s been happening with me.

Marsha and I took our oldest son and two grandsons back to the airport Tuesday for their flight back home.  It’s  an 8 hour round trip for us through what can be some horrific traffic.  It was hard to see them go because it could be a long time before we get to see them again.

We had a wonderful time together.  We even took a pedal car railroad excursion into some very interesting history of the early 1900s in Clay County, West Virginia.  What a rewarding day!.

Since I am talking about spending time with family I would just like to say that there are VERY few things in our lives that we are blessed with more important than our families.  For those who perhaps haven’t found the individual you want to spend the rest of your life with, or are just getting started with no children yet, or even if you already have children, PLEASE let me tell you very sincerely that you only get ONE chance to rear your children and get it right.  Let me say this:  NO one ever gets the job done perfectly.  We all make mistakes.  But if we are trying to teach them the way we have been instructed in Deuteronomy Chapter 6 as one example, we won’t get too far off track.

Marsha and I are blessed with 3 sons, and although we certainly made our share of mistakes, all three of them turned out to be pretty fine men.  One thing I can honestly say, we took rearing them in the reverence of God and His word very seriously.  I pastored two churches for the better part of their time at home with us.  No, they have been nowhere near perfection in what they were taught in following God’s plan for their lives.  But after a few “self-inflicted” wounds they have learned that disobedience and rebellion against God’s perfect way is simply not worth the cost to themselves, or to their families.

We should all be very happy to realize that we serve a very gracious and forgiving God.  But believe me, although He is gracious to forgive us and we are repented of sins for eternity, that doesn’t meant that we won’t reap what we have sown while here on earth just as His word declares.   If this were not so then that would make Him a liar.

In closing, I would like to say again to ALL of us:.  the more we seek to understand and obey His word as revealed to us in the 1611 KJV Bible, the more blessed we will be in all of our endeavors.  Family is SO important.  Enjoy the brief time you have with them here on earth.
