Coffee Talk on the Porch

Alright folks, here goes.  I have never tried to write a “blog” before, and to be quite honest I have never seen a need to.  But some folks keep suggesting to me that it might be a good idea so I can let you all know a little more about me.

I’m a  hillbilly from West Virginia,  a husband of almost 48 years, dad to three grown sons and a papaw to 6 grandchildren.  Four boys and two girls.  Ranging in age from 10 to 19.  Yep, I’m getting some years on me.  Mostly very good years I must say.

Marsha Jean and I live down a “holler” in a little town called Nettie.  We bought the house from her daddy 45 years or so ago.  It’s very secluded and private.  Just the way we like it.  Plenty of room for the wildlife we see in our yard very frequently.  I enjoy sitting on the front porch swing, drinking a cup of coffee in the mornings when time permits before we get to far into the day.  When we do have visitors from time to time it seems that’s the place that nearly always draws them, and is one of the best locations to hold conversations on important matters, or just light hearted dribble.

By the grace of God I was raised here in West Virginia in the country and was blessed to spend many, many happy hours with my Dad and brother swimming the creek, hunting, fishing and hiking all over the hills.  What a wonderful way to grow up and learn some very important values of life.  Dad was a coal miner for about 40 years, a wounded veteran of WWII,and also a prisoner of war for a brief period.

I, too, served in the Air Force from 1967 to 1971 and spend most of the time overseas.  A year in southeast Asia in Thailand, Vietnam and Laos.  I can honestly say that I never disgraced the uniform, but over the years since I have learned just how many thousands of innocent young men, and women were wounded and killed for “falsehoods” that tricked us into these unjust, immoral and unconstitutional wars.

In closing I will just say that for my first blog that I hope this is a halfway decent attempt. 🤔 I hope for those of you who don’t already know it, please join me on the radio from 8 to 9 pm Eastern, Monday thru Wednesday on 6.115 shortwave and on And if you like, drop me a message on our contact page, here on the web.

Maybe we can try this again sometime.
