I’m not certain that I can do a daily blog, but I will say hi as often as I can. As I said, this is totally a new experience for me, so please forgive me if I’m not on here on a regular basis.
Today I would like to address a question that has been asked me several times, and an assumption a lot of folks have about preachers. Many folks have asked me, “As a preacher are you ever tempted to sin?”, or they say something like, “Since you are a preacher and man of God you aren’t tempted like others.”
Well, I sincerely wish your thought that a preacher is somehow above temptation was true. But unfortunately even preachers and pastors are still living in a sinful world and have the same weakness’s as everyone else. But praise God, our Savior promised that in our weakness, His grace is sufficient to help us overcome the weakness we have in the flesh. We are ALL tempted. Its something we all have in common as we are told in 1 Cor. 10:13. But God always give us a way to escape IF we want to!!
To say anyone has lived a “perfect” live with absolutely no “law breaking i.e. sin” after being born again would be a mistake. There is NEVER an excuse for sin!! BUT praise God that through Christ, there is forgiveness given of all “repented” of sin!! To continually live in known sin will separate us from fellowship with Christ.
When I was called to preach and rebelled I can honestly say that the time that I lived in disobedience to His calling was a miserable time in my life.
The reason I wanted to share this with you today is to encourage you in your walk with our Savior and let you know that “perfection” in the flesh is NOT possible. But we MUST NOT use the weakness of the flesh as an excuse to and for sin. Overcoming the flesh is a victory we can accomplish in and through Christ and our love for Him, and also the love we have for our families and others. Remember: to sin is the most selfish thing we can do. Sin means that we are acting like a Self-Indulgent-Narcissist!!
